HB 366 the WILDLIFE PROTECTION & PUBLIC SAFETY ACT Committee Hearing on Thursday, February 7 at 8 AM – NOTE: ARRIVE BY 7 AM TO GET A SEAT IN THE HEARING ROOM
The bill to ban traps and poisons is set to be heard in the House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Committee this Thursday, Feb 7. The bill must pass this committee in order to progress.
What: HB 366 Wildlife Protection & Public Safety Act bill hearing in the House Energy Environment and Natural Resources Committee
Where: Room 317, The State Capitol Roundhouse, 490 Old Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe NM
When: 8 AM but plan to be there at 7 AM
If you can, please attend! Just your presence is important for that moment when the committee chair asks to see a show of hands in support of the bill. You may also testify in support of the bill but plan to be very, very brief – just one or two sentences. Give others the chance to speak also. The members of this committee mostly have not served on it previously – they have not been exposed to the bill, heard your stories before or ever had a chance to vote on it.
You will need to plan to arrive early to get a seat in the small hearing room. Because bill opponents are highly motivated, we know from experience they will try to pack the room too. The hearing will start at 8 AM, but getting there at 7 AM when the doors open is not too early. It is first come, first serve. Don’t let a trapper get your seat!
If your representative serves on the House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Committee also please give them a call or send an email asking for their support of HB 366. Be sure to start your message with the words, “I am a constituent”. Go here to see which representatives are on this committee.
Onward!
